The
Asha Kiran Centre is
a literacy programme for street
children started
in 1995.The attendance varies but there are about 60
children
from 4 to 14 years on the rolls. The children come
at 11 a.m. to play
and then have classes from 12.25 to 2.15 p.m.
followed by substantial snacks. The pupils of Classes V to
IX from the regular school
teach the children on a one-to-one basis
during their SUPW time. They are guided and
supervised by the teachers.
The
Sewing Centre
is an income-generating as well as a training
project. It teaches needy women and girls to make simple
clothes and do embroidery. The Course participants make
the uniforms for the
Prep classes and other articles of clothing which
are bought by the parents. The school children also visit
the Cheshire Homes , Shishu Bhawan, the schools for blind
children at St.Michael's and in Morabadi, the leprosy
colony. Each class takes on one of these as a project
and provides entertainment and necessities for the
inmates as part of the development of awareness of the
needs of others.
