OUTREACH PROGRAMMES
In
1991 Ashadeep was started as a parallel school for street
children to prepare them for eventual admission into
regular schools. They also take part in singing, dancing,
elocution, games activities. They are taken on excursions
and are exposed to various programmes available in the
city. Today
their numbers fluctuate from 75 to 100.
In
2002 a night shelter was started for girls at risk on the
streets. About 50 girls now regularly stay at the school.
Some attend classes in Ashadeep others are in the main
school.
Although
there are 3 regular teachers in Ashadeep the teachers and
students of the main school also participate in the
teaching programme.
About
200 children in the school are under sponsorship from
NGOs.
All
the Ashadeep children as well as many children in the main
school get a hot midday meal. They have health check-ups
and medical attention is given by the doctors at Medical
College Hospital when required.
