REACH PROGRAMME
Loreto
College Women’s Cell was started in 1996 at the
initiative of Mrs. Usha Bubna, with the objective of
providing non-formal education to girls who have had no
opportunity to go to school or were dropouts at an early
stage. The cell began with 14 girls and the numbers
increased quickly so that currently there are 40
students.
The main
thrust was on literacy but several students also wanted
to learn spoken English to give them better
opportunities when applying for jobs. Some students
opted for more formal studies. So, classes were
conducted for the National Open School Secondary Board.
So far about 10 students have passed the examination.
Selected students are also given computer education at
the Mary Ward Computer Centre of Loreto College.
The
teachers of the Women’s Cell are all voluntary workers
from College staff, retired staff and alumnae.
