The
courses offered at present is Class X
I.C.S.E. – (Arts) English, Hindi/Bengali, History
and Geography, Home Science or Computer Applications,
Mathematics land Science and another stream has –
English, Hindi/Bengali, History and Geography, Economics,
Environmental Science and Home Science.
Class
X11 (I.S.C.) was begun in May 2002 to try and accommodate
the students who would like to do the I.S.C. without Maths
and Science. A number of students from Loreto Sealdah were
accommodated after accommodating all who wanted to join
from Elliott Road. The subjects are English,
Hindi/Bengali, Political Science, Sociology and History.
Home Science and Elective English.
The
Open School started in 1987 in order to accommodate the
few who could not do the I.C.S.E. – other girls who want
to join are also welcome. The subjects they do are :
English, 2nd Language, Economics, Social
Sciences, Computers and Home Science.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES :
Elliott Road has a history of co-curricular activities. At present, the school has the Y.C.S., L.T.S., J.P.I.C. and Taru Mitra. In 2001-2002 Amberleen Pereira was the 1st runner up for the ‘Teen of the Year’ run by the ‘Teenage’ magazine – which was on a National level. In 2004, Agnijita Mukherjee of class 8 went to Connecticut in U.S.A. as part of the delegation to the U.N. This year, another girl Chynelle Stephen will go for the earth summit in Japan in July 2005. The girls take part in various activities within the school and at Inter-School level.
J. P. I. C. REPORT (2001 – 2004 Nov)
AIM : To start JPIC from the very beginning. So Junior School was included with Class V’s. Awareness to bring up the issues to motivate children.
ISSUES : A] Domestic Child Labour
AIDS : Exhibition, skit, collect statistics around locality, to find out how many children were employed at homes. SAVE THE CHILD project was introduced by Christine.
B] Industrial Child Labour
To bring about awareness, plays and charts put up.
Loreto Sealdah had organized an exhibition where children from the Junior School (Class V) had painted posters and real life pictures for the display. Mrs. Pereira was coordinating.
C] Exploitation of Woman and Status of Women.
Talks, discussions and assemblies were put up. Children put up collages to show dignity of women. Panel discussion held where women achievers were taken as panelists.
D] Environment
AIDS ; Charts, Exhibitions, Boards, Skits, Assemblies, Workshops, March, Seminars, Slide Shows, Competition.
ACTIVITY : Tiger Project launched. Under this, Samreen represented our School in Sunderbans and was selected on an All India basis to go to Ranthambore. Save the Tiger Project going on. T.T.C. arranged seminars. Class IV’s included as well. · Taru Mitra launched as well. Talks and slide shows organized. Earth Tax introduced, Cleaning of compounds by children. Visit to Patna – Taru Mitra ashram open to Class V’s to IX’s organized. Agnijita Mukherjee represented our school in the USA and Chynelle Stephen will represent our school in Japan this year.Workshop in St. James in Summer took place. BITM activities taken part. Letters sent to the Police Deptt. & CMC for cleanliness and noise pollution in and around our School.Took part in march with all Loreto Schools. Banners and posters made by children of Class IV took out a silent procession. Reported in the newspapers in Oct. 2004. Van Mahotsav celebrated with planting of seeds and plants.Friendship Day & Rakhi celebrated by tying Rakhis around trees.
Concern for Calcutta :It started off but later given up. Our children participated in the Kolkata Open Air Fair before Pujas in New Market.
World Peace Day and World Solidarity Day celebrated keeping in mind the global situation.Mary Ward Week and Mother Teresa remembered.1 day workshop organized in PCB. Haldia Petro Chemicals and IPE – a seminar on plastic disposal· Health camps organized – Eye check up and Hepatitis B vaccine in schools.

Inspired by the high ideals of intense faith in God and unfailing love for one’s country, the girls of Loreto Day School, Elliott Road, joined the L.T.S. (Leadership Training Service) Movement on July 18th, 1994 under the guardianship of Rev. Sister Mary Ross, the then Principal of the School assisted by the school guide Miss Sharmila Bhattacharya.
Mr. Joe Chiramal, teacher and president of L.T.S. (Eastern Zone) spoke to the girls of classes IX1, IX2 and IX O.S. about what the L.T.S. is all about. He emphasized that L.T.S. aims at training students in leadership of service and sets before its members a high ideal in the motto : ‘FOR GOD LAND COUNTRY’ Prayer, Action and Perseverance are the three pillars on which the entire L.T.S. structure stands on.
Charter Of Activities :
1. A group of 20 girls joined the movement and appointed general secretaries from amongst them.
2. Each meeting began with a prayer and ended with a prayer (followed by discussion, debate etc.) The meetings were conducted usually on every Saturday for an hour (2.30 – 3.30 p.m.) and sometimes on a Thursday.
3. Projects focusing on activities related to the needs of the people like (1) Women (2) Education (3) Display Boards (4) School Assemblies.
4. Inter School Meetings were held at Lord Jesus Church on R.A.K. Road, Kolkata, to discuss about the different plans of action (These meetings were presided over by Mrs Daffney)
5. On the 30th July 1995, New Comers Meeting was held from 8.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Sunday). Mr. Dominic Gomes (Teacher, St. Augustine School) welcomed the new L.T.Sers. Hunaid and Anisha became the new animators. Groups were formed and introduction of each one was done – Games like Dumb Charades were played.Finally, the L.T.S. vision was discussed and the day ended with a prayer service and a meaningful hymn – ‘Hum Ko Man Ki Shanty Dena.’
6. Besides, putting up Charts on Display Boards and conducting Assemblies, the L.T.Sers of Loreto Elliott Road also conducted the Republic Day Celebration the same year. Our programme was put up by the girls and Sr. Mary gave the final vote of thanks. We also served refreshments like tea and chips.The L.T.Sers also went to Loreto, Sealdah to witness the Independence Day Programme there.All L.T.Sers also made it to the St. Joseph’s Old Age Home on A.J.C.Bose Road, Kolkata on 25th December to make the aged occupants feel special on that day. They exchanged gifts and goodies with them.Thus, as agents of social change, the L.T.Sers in Loreto Elliott Road, were a committed lot who worked hard for the service of God and their country. This in turn provided them with skills, self confidence and motivation to reach out to God and his people around them.
TARUMITRA

Tarumitra comprising more than a quarter of the school’s student population, works under the guidelines of the Taru Mitra Headquarters in Patna. It is headed by specially appointed teachers and has organized quite a few activities and programmes. The activities performed so far are as following :
1. Met D.C.P. (Traffic) Lal Bazar regarding noise pollution and traffic control. An inspector and ASP visited to assess the situation and will put up traffic signboards near the school.
2. Awareness created among students by putting name tags in plants inside the school compound. Pots were bought by Taru Mitra. Saplings were sent by Loreto Sealdah to Loreto Elliott Road for forest week. They were planted in pots.
3. Display board on E.V.S. topics throughout the year, to make the girls laware about the different changes in the environment.
4. Visited Loreto Sealdah to see rain water harvesting.
5. Slogan making on noise pollution during craft and English class. Silent procession outside school.
6. Agnijita Mukherjee went to U.S.A. to discuss E.V.S. issues. Shortlisted for Japan Conference next year.
7. HIV Awareness Programme attended by representatives.
8. Energy Monitors : Two ‘energy monitors’ were appointed in each class. They were supposed to take care and keep a check on various things like usage of electricity, maintenance of plants, punishing offenders for littering the campus grounds etc.
9. Propagation of Taru Mitra :
Propagation of Taru Mitra ideals among the students was carried out by the teachers and energy monitors. To make it more effective, a quiz on Taru Mitra was organized. Potted plants were given away as prizes.
10. Earth Tax – This was charged by the energy monitors from all the students found using plastic bags in the campus. Before this, several talks were arranged to discourage the usage of plastics. A special assembly was put up by Class X E.V.S. girls to emphasize on the ban of plastic bags and alternatives of plastic bags.
11. In the S.U.P.W. classes lots of crafts were made from re-cycled waste matter and paper.
12. A seminar on plastic recycling was attended by the teachers where ‘plastics can be used for road construction’ was heard off.Multi media presentation in plastic disposal as garbage, reusing and recycling of plastics held and organized jointly by IPF and Haldia Petrochemicals Ques & Ans. Session after the presentation. Conference attended by Mrs. N. Bhattacharya and Ms. S. Goswami on Plastics and use of it on road building.
13. Rakhis made out of waste. They were tied around the trees on 30/8, slogans were written by the children on the same and put around the compound. Children of IV and V made a circle, joined hands and took the oath not to harm trees. The Principal, coordinator and some teachers were present.
14. Slide shows for the parents, conducted by Brother Noel D’Sa (National Coordisnator, KFT).
15. Multi media presentation (slide show) on Tigers shown to the children of the Junior School, organized by K.F.T.
16. Drawing competition held on the above.
17. Van Mahotsav celebrated with the children planting saplings and taking oath about protecting them.
18. Children were taken for a wild life photography show at Oxford Book store.
19. Names of trees found and put upon the trees in the Junior School Compound.
20. Meeting with Principal and Mr. Lohia of the IPF in school with regard to garbage disposal specific to plastics.
21. Freeze prepared called ‘Dying Declaration on the Bodhi tree, which is perhaps on its last stage due to human apathy”.
22. Children have been asked to collect dry garbage at home. They will then be asked to bring them to school one day for selling.
23. Display board on saving water and water conservation.
24. Making the Roshni children aware of the green environment by making story books.
25. In December 2003 Mrs.N.Bhattacharya, Mrs.S.Das and Ms.Goswami along with Rev Sr.Yvonne Gomes escorted the Tarumitra girls to the Tarumitra Ashram in Digha Ghat. Patna. Entire traveling arrangement, fund collection, ticketing, collecting the girls supervised by
Mrs.J.Banerjee.
