‘Grounded in the Gospel…we follow Mary Ward’s way of
freedom and justice, seeking to be a prophetic voice, risking new ways, and
new paths, that God’s love be known.’ (Const. Vol. II Chp. 7 no.7.3)
Jesus chose ‘to pitch His tent’ with the people and to become like them in
every way. Going to the people was the principal thrust of Jesus’ saving
mission. It was the religious establishment who condemned Jesus for mixing
with the riff-raff – publicans, sinners, outcastes – who were shunned by
respectable society. He was for anyone who was oppressed, marginalized,
ostracized, suffering… Jesus was clearly for the ‘ANAWIM’. Unless I involve
myself with the struggles of the oppressed people, I cannot understand
Jesus.
